La  Aurora 107 Lancero a.k.a the “Twitter Cigar”

I felt this cigar would be the perfect cigar to start my review with the new twitter account being its origins were from twitter itself.

Appearance:
This cigar has a beautiful sungrown wrapper from Ecuador showing a perfect roll. Band really seems to accent the color of the wrapper well. Overall feel of the cigar is good with a few harder spots but the draw is absolutely perfect.

Prelight taste:
Slight almost maple, brown sugary sweetness. Perfect draw

First third:
Starts with nice cinnamon spice on tongue and a nice tart sweetness on the finish. Surprisingly much more spice than I expected from a 107. Once the cigar really got going the flavor has progressed to a cashew like nuttiness but still holding a nice combo of spicy sweetness. Hints of vanilla and cocoa appear on the mid palate appear for a few puffs and then disappear. Spice on the palate starts to settle out after the first inch but increases on the retrohale along with a nice woodiness. Ash is a nice light grey with a bit of white flecks showing through.

Second third:
Starts with maple nuttiness and the cinnamon spice have reappeared on the palate. A bit further into the smoke the sweetness has dissipated again and moved on to a woody nuttiness.  It seems that the flavors keep flip flopping between sweet and woody with spice going in and out every 5-10 and the cinnamon flavor staying constant. Very enjoyable!

Final Third:
The final third begins with no sweetness at all with the cashew nuttiness and cinnamon dominating the palate. Oaky flavor and the vanilla and cocoa are beginning to peak through halfway through the final third. This cigar just began to get hot in the last inch which in my mind is pretty damn good for a lancero!

Overall Impression:
Out of all the La Aurora 107’s I’ve smoked I’ve never had one as spicy as this lancero. I think the guys at La Aurora cigars got this blend right by combining the perfect amount of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos. As expected from the first third the burn on this cigar was perfect throughout and the ash holding for a solid 1 ½ inches. Wood, nuts and a slight sweetness dominated and the hints of vanilla and cocoa rounded this lancero out to a great smoke. Clearly a great cigar!  I would love to see what a little more age would do to this cigar.

Final Score: 92 points

Welcome to the New Blog

I haven't reviewed any cigars for close to a year now and thanks to a few generous manufacturers and friends I have decided to get back into it. I will be posting reviews of prerelease, current release, hard-to-find, and other cigars as well as some scattered accessory reviews. As for other things... who knows you'll see it when it gets posted. Please excuse the look of the site it is still in the process of being edited.
